Description

Jonah Matranga is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist, widely known for his emotionally resonant work across indie rock, post-hardcore, and acoustic singer-songwriter traditions. He first came to prominence in the 1990s as the frontman of the Sacramento-based band Far, whose 1998 album Water & Solutions became a touchstone for the emerging melodic post-hardcore and “emo” sound. After Far disbanded, Matranga launched a solo career under the moniker onelinedrawing, creating lo-fi acoustic recordings characterized by heartfelt lyrics, vulnerability, and direct intimacy with listeners.

Matranga has also been the creative force behind several collaborative projects, including New End Original and Gratitude, while maintaining an extensive solo career. He is known for pioneering DIY approaches to music distribution, offering fans custom recordings, sliding-scale pricing, and small-scale house concerts long before these practices became common. Alongside his independent work, he has appeared as a guest vocalist on projects with bands such as Deftones, Thursday, and Fort Minor—the latter featuring him on the hit single “Where’d You Go.” More recently, Matranga has revived the onelinedrawing name for the 2022 album Tenderwild, while also collaborating with UK experimental rock group Sons of Alpha Centauri on their albums Push (2021) and Pull (2024). His career remains defined by a strong personal connection to his audience and a relentless exploration of new creative paths.
